UTI is one of the most common infections caused by microbes. It can happen anywhere in the human urinary tract.
The upper tract (ureters and kidneys) infections occur rarely than lower tract (urethra and bladder) infections, but are usually more severe.
Lower tract UTI symptoms include increased frequency and urgency of urination with strong odor, burning sensation while urinating, not passing much urine, bloody or cloudy urine, pelvic pain in women, and rectal pain in men.
Upper tract UTI symptoms include tenderness and pain in the upper back and sides, fever, nausea, chills and vomiting, etc.
Treatment: Antibiotics for bacterial UTIs. Oral antibiotics for lower tract UTI and intravenous antibiotics for upper tract UTI.
